Tonight, the Nashville Metro Council will meet to decide the fate of the Fairgrounds, located just south of Nashville off Wedgewood Avenue.
Metro Council is expecting a full house in the wake of the controversial decision. Critics argue that the venue offers affordable activities for the area; however, the group conducting the study to advise whether it should stay open or not says the income doesn’t justify the means. Currently, the flea market, the Tennessee State Fair and several race track events are held here.
Residents in the Woodmont In Waverly, Wedgewood Park, Glenrose, Woodbine, Berry Hill and Historic Chestnut Hill neighborhoods have the most vested interest in the fate of this site, as all these neighborhoods share borders with the site or have borders nearby.
My top seven ideas for the site, if they decide to go another route.

1. A movie studio: Nashville is secretly one of the most filmed areas in America.
2. IKEA: Everyone says it needs to come to the defunct Bellevue Center Mall. Forget that, bring it closer to downtown.
3. Disney Nashville: If I’m going to dream, I might as well dream big. Imagine Mickey and Minnie dressed as Loretta and Conway. Pretty please?
4. An Nashville indoor dog park: They’re doing it in Dallas brillliantly. Why can’t we do it here?
5. Six Flags Nashville: If I can’t have Disneyworld or Disneyland, then I want a Six Flags!
6. An enormous eco-friendly park. If you live near downtown, you have several options like Bicentennial Mall and Centennial Park, but you can never have enough open spaces where people live.
7. A shopping place with only places we do not have in Nashville: Crate & Barrel, H&M (H and M), Armani Exchange, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Room and Board, Bloomingdales Home, a bigger Apple store (like enormous), a Microsoft Store and a ton of other places.
What do you think should go there? Should the fairgrounds even change?
