One of my Schadenfreude moments is watching a newly relocated news reporter mispronounce part of Nashville and the outlying areas. (1) If you’re looking for a reporting job (2) if you’re moving to Nashville or (3) you’ve lived here for a while a doubt some of your pronunciations, you need to read and understand this!
Demonbreun (an exit and street near Music Row)
Wannabe says: dee’-mun-broo’-in
Local says: da-mun’-bree-un
Lebanon (a town east of Nashville in Wilson County)
Wannabe says: le’-ban-non
Local says: leb’nun
Santa Fe (a small town south of Nashville)
Wannabe says: san’-ta-fay’
Local says: sa’-ni-fee’
Maury County (a county south of Nashville)
Wannabe says: maw’-ry
Local says: mur’-ray
Lafayette (a small town northeast of Nashville)
Wannabe says: lah’-fee-ett
Local says: luh-fay’-ett
Sa ni fee ?? Wow! I'd stick out like a sore thumb... but if you come to OUR parts... know how to pronounce Fuquay Varina! LOL!
