For the first time since 2006, home sales in the Greater Nashville area were up from the previous year. December 2011 home sales ended with an 18.2% increase over December 2010, with 1,773 closings according to Greater Nashville Association of Realtors. Fourth quarter closings were also up from fourth quarter 2010, by 17.9%. December marks the sixth consecutive month of increased home sales. For the year, there were 20,624 homes sold. Although that is only a 1.8% increase over total sales for 2010, it is still a great sign of things to come. January has started off well too with pending sales being up.
